Some couples decide to serve their wedding cake as the dessert, while others prefer to serve a dessert and let their guests self-serve the wedding cake a little later in the night. Here are my suggestions to deciding how much cake to order.
First thing you need to do is decide if you’d like to keep the top tier for your first anniversary. In that case, exclude the top tier from your serving count.
If you are planning on serving your Wedding Cake as the dessert, then go ahead and order enough servings for all your guests.
If your planning on providing a self-serving station after the guests have already had dessert, then the reality is that not all the guests will have any cake. From my experience, only about half the guests will come around to try some. My recommendation is to get enough cake to serve about 60% of your guests, anymore than that, will likely be wasted.
Pro tip – turn your cake tasting into a little date with your fiancé! Make a night out of it. Go out for an early dinner, and enjoy the tasting right after. It’s a relief from the other stressful planning decisions and its fun! Who doesn’t love cake!
